Personal Landscaping Project.

Over the Summer of 2020 I had arranged to undertake work experience in an architects practice but due to the Covid-19 pandemic I found a different way to gain experience in the relating fields. I got the chance to design collaborate and oversea a private landscaping project in Northamptonshire, UK.

Throughout the project I have gained experience in :

  • Creating a design sympathetic to the surrounding context and functional for the needs of the clients.

  • Desiging and reviewing with a paying client and a principal contact.

  • Ammending designs due to material availability and budget.

  • Creating a comprehensive drawing set and CAD models for contractors to work from.

  • Personally handle machinery, tools and marking equiptment used in the physical creation of the project such as laser measures and levels.

  • Understanding and learning from errors in the creation of the project and the proccess needed to create a successful project.

  • Liaise between the contractor and cllient to ensure all expectations are being met to the correct quality.

Digital overlay.

To illustrate the direction and layout of the slabs I overlayed an image of the site with a digital drawing, this was used to explain and visualise the design to both client and contractor.

On Site discussions.

Throughout the project I was hands on and vigilant with the progress of the work. I ensured the plan was correct and was able to adjust the details of the design once it was marked out in position.

Contractor.

Below is a link to the landscaping company / primary contractor that was responsible for constructing the design I created. The contractor was local to the area therefore knew the local materials, tecniques and suppliers well. This ensured local acquisition of materials to reduce the carbon footprint of the project and a design that fits comfortably in its environment.
