LEEDS Hybrid Housing.
Challenging the systematic ideas of housing in UK cities. Creating a functional, community live / work residence for creative artisans.
Leeds Hybrid Housing Research Book
Precedent Research Diagrams
Precedents Include: Coal Drops Yard for the tectonics and attention to detail on tactile areas of the building. Lasvit HQ for the semi permiable facade of the building creating an inviting face visually but retaining the privacy. Seattle Sculpture Park for the creative topography of the site connecting areas of the city that would otherwise be cut off due to transport arteries. La Muralla Roja for creating a communal residential block that retains the privacy without the use of fences and walls.
Final Design
I desined my Hybrid Housing in Leeds to reflect the grandeur that Kirkgate once resembled. The rich heritage, figuratively and physically, of the area has been lost recently due to the increase in road use from cars and busses, and gentrification of the wider city. The segment of the city has been cut off and I planned to reconnect the area through my masterplanning and Hybrid Housing. I have made a permiable area that shelters the areas function from the wider city and elements but creates a vibrant community within. Like my precedents I have planned the site to allow curiosity but restrict movement in certain private areas. The projects form was based off the existing architectural lines and desired routes through the site.
PHYSICAL MODELLING
COMPUTER MODELLING
Final Presentation Board
In this project…
I progressed my skills with CAD such as Sketchup and AutoCad to develop detailed and accurate computer models to build up a representative project board. From this I was able to render and populate my designs using V-Ray and Photoshop. I used my skills on CAD to economically plan the production of my physical model to avoid wasting material. My knowledge of technical and environmental strategies was also developed throughout this project by creating accurate working and detail drawings and passive solar gain diagrams.
